Joseph Cunliffe, flutist, composer, music educator, and distinguished recording artist, is an area musician who is featured on over 80 recordings of jazz, classical, and world music.  He has recorded film music for PBS, the National Geographic, the BBC, and the Discovery Channel and has numerous radio, TV, and film documentary appearances.

His early studio recording work began when he was a teen, playing saxophone, piano and assorted woodwinds for commercial jingles, record demos and LP tracks.  Having an already well established discography Mr. Cunliffe adds three recordings which he performs on, a Celtic Christmas CD with the Celtic Consort, a CD titled "Winter Moon" by soprano MaryAnn Evangelista that features his group Flutar with pianist Stef Scaggiari and Meg Baker’s new CD release “Red Jacket Road.  With his duo Flutar, Cunliffe released a new CD in 2008  entitled “Encantada,” that highlights the duos innovative original arrangements of Latin and Brazilian music and he will be featured playing flute and soprano saxophone on an upcoming CD release by singer Tom Humbert which was recorded last week at a NY studio.  In 2005 Joseph premièred his composition "Latin American Suite" for flute, guitar and orchestra and on a 2008 jazz concert Joseph premièred his composition “Michael” dedicated to the late saxophonist Michael Brecker.

As a member of Flutar he has received critical acclaim and has toured extensively in Latin America and the US.  Flutar was awarded the title of “Artistic Ambassadors of the US,” by USIS for their invaluable music contributions in El Salvador, CA.  Flutar’s discography includes their debut CD “Dreams of Suchitlan,” “Journey’s Crossing” and “Live at Blue” all recorded by noted recording engineer Jeff Gruber.  Joseph Cunliffe has performed for world renowned flutist, Sir James Galway, Oprah Winfrey, Leonard Slatkin, Lorin Maazel at Castleton and Vice President and Mrs. Al Gore to name a few.
