At one seminar I was paired up with a 50-something year old dude (remember I was only a teenager so that was ancient to me back then.)

He was overweight and out of shape.

So I thought I'd "take it easy" on him.

But I could never seem to hit him.

And when I finally grabbed hold of him, he tossed me on the floor.

This was not a one off thing, but he did it several times.

The fact is, the guy wasn't even that good - certainly no master.

But he was cool.

He must've seen I was pretty shook up.

Because even though I wasn't the best, I could usually handle myself and give even more experienced opponents a few good shots.

He took me aside and said "listen young man..."

"Old age and treachery beat youth and talent every time."

"What's your secret?" I asked him.

He told me he's learned a lot of stuff, but it was the little bit of Tai Chi he picked up that helped him the most. (Again, he was no master, just loved martial arts.)
